OPD management software built around the Indian outpatient day
An Indian OPD is not a calendar of neat appointments. It is a 9 a.m. surge of walk-ins and WhatsApp bookings, a doctor running twenty minutes late, a fee counter, a pharmacy line, and a cash box to tally at night. MedQuePMS is an OPD management system shaped around that exact day — token issue to end-of-day collections — as part of one clinic management platform.
A 20-minute walkthrough of a full OPD day — booking, queue, consult, pharmacy, billing — live.
An OPD day, before and after
Before: the receptionist scribbles names into a register while three patients talk at once and the phone rings unanswered. Nobody knows if number 14 paid. The doctor writes the same URI prescription for the ninth time by hand. At the pharmacy, someone squints at that handwriting. At 9 p.m., the day's cash is reconstructed from memory, chit by chit.
After: every arrival — WhatsApp booking, press-1 IVR call, self check-in QR scan, or a plain walk-in typed in at the desk — becomes a token in one live queue, and even the unanswered ring is caught: a missed call automatically becomes a WhatsApp lead asking "Are you booking?". Check-in captures vitals straight onto the token. The fee is settled before the consult — "Attend now" stays disabled until it is collected or waived — so no visit slips through unbilled. The consult takes minutes, not because the doctor hurries, but because a template fills the note, the prescription and the follow-up in one tap. The Rx reaches the pharmacy counter on its own. And the day closes with a ledger, not a guess.
None of this needs new machines. The queue runs in a browser, the TV board is a URL, and the whole patient side works in English and Hindi — which is why general physician clinics in tier-2 and tier-3 towns are exactly who it was built for.
Every stage of the OPD, handled
Six stages, one system — each stage hands off to the next without anyone re-typing anything.
Intake on every channel
WhatsApp booking on a Meta-verified number, press-1 IVR, self check-in QR, an AI website assistant, and manual walk-in registration — with missed-call capture turning unanswered rings into WhatsApp leads, and a queue preview ("You'd be #5, ~30 min") before any booking is confirmed.
Token + vitals in one step
Each arrival gets a token in the live multi-doctor queue, and vitals captured at check-in are stored on that token — so the reading is already on the doctor's screen. Explore the live queue →
Pay-to-consult gate
"Attend now" is disabled until the fee is collected or waived — cash, card, UPI or online. GST-aware invoices, a clinic-owned UPI QR with the exact amount embedded, and EMI plans when needed. Explore billing →
Fast, structured consults
Six built-in templates — URI, Diabetes, Hypertension, Gastroenteritis, Gastritis, ANC — fill SOAP, Rx, labs and follow-up in one tap. ICD-10 tagging draws on ~120 Indian OPD codes with alias search, and saving the consult generates a clinic-branded prescription PDF instantly.
Same-day pending-Rx worklist
Prescriptions land in a pending-Rx queue at the counter, pre-filled from the doctor's Rx — a same-day worklist that resets at local midnight instead of piling up. Barcode billing, batch-wise stock with expiry, and a server-computed CGST/SGST split.
Close the till with confidence
A collections ledger covers consults and pharmacy (exportable to CSV), and cash-drawer shift sessions end in a Z-report. Every consult save is atomic — record, invoice, queue completion and payment reconciliation commit in one transaction.
Built for OPD reality
- Walk-ins are first-classNo appointment needed — the desk registers a walk-in and the patient joins the same live queue as everyone else.
- Priority when it mattersThree token priorities — normal, urgent, emergency — so a serious case moves up without a shouting match at the desk.
- Doctor running late? The queue adjustsAuto-rebalance kicks in when a doctor runs late or takes a break, and ETAs update from reality, not the schedule.
- "Out today" in one actionFlip a doctor to Out today and bulk-reassign their waiting tokens to colleagues in one step.
- Evening OPD safeTokens survive midnight, and a stale-token sweep closes anything left open past 12 hours.
- No unbilled consultsThe pay-to-consult gate means the fee is settled or explicitly waived before the doctor attends.
- Hindi for patientsThe entire patient-facing experience is bilingual English / हिन्दी — apps, web and even server messages.
- No hardware lock-inBrowser, ordinary phones and tablets; the lobby TV board is just a URL on any screen.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between OPD management software and a full hospital management system?
A full HMS is built around inpatient care — beds, wards, admissions and discharge. MedQuePMS is deliberately focused on the outpatient clinic: booking, the live token queue, the consultation, pharmacy, billing and follow-up. It covers cashless insurance workflows, in-clinic lab orders and referrals, but it does not do IPD bed or ward management. If your revenue lives in the OPD, you get a sharper tool without paying for hospital modules you will never open.
Can it handle walk-ins and booked appointments in the same queue?
Yes — that is the normal case it is designed for. WhatsApp bookings, press-1 IVR bookings, self check-in QR scans and front-desk walk-ins all become tokens in the same live multi-doctor queue, and the front desk sees a queue preview — “You'd be #5, ~30 min” — before confirming any of them.
How do tokens work through an OPD day?
Every patient gets a token that moves waiting → in-progress → completed, with no-show, cancel, skip-and-recall and transfer for the exceptions, and three priority levels — normal, urgent and emergency. Tokens survive midnight, so a late-evening patient is never silently dropped, and a stale-token sweep closes anything left open past 12 hours.
Do I need to buy new hardware to run it?
No. MedQuePMS runs in the browser and on ordinary phones and tablets. The lobby TV board is just a URL you open on any screen, and the pharmacy point of sale scans barcodes with either a dedicated scanner or the device camera.
Does it work in Hindi?
The whole patient-facing side — the patient web app, both mobile apps, even server messages — is bilingual English and Hindi, with a language switcher available before login. Staff screens are in English.
